Torque 3D Keeps Crashing... Really Annoying
by User · in Torque 3D Professional · 06/24/2009 (3:27 pm) · 17 replies
I Have Beta 3 and it did this in beta 2 also.
Whatever im doing whenever at random times, T3D crashes. I Don't Know Why, but its really annoying. I also have a really bad habit of saving often so im losing all my work :(
Ideas? Thanks.

Why not run it from a debugger, you'll see where it crashes when that happens...?

More info on what you are doing would help as the others have mentioned. Does the computer crash doing anything else? Computer games?
Just to give you an idea, a few weeks ago my computer was randomly crashing and driving me crazy. I could not figure out why. Then on a wild hunch I suspected the power supply (just for info on random crashing, suspect the PS) so I ran a 50ft power cord out to a dedicated outlet in my garage. Turns out my computer pulls so much power (1200W PS) anytime someone plugged something into the outlet on the other side of the wall, my computer would crash or act weird.
So it really can be anything..

All im using is torque 3d while its running. No it doesnt happen to anything else. Im suspecting its just the beta, but this is my brothers computer, and it has a fairly slow hard drive. Those are possible reasons why it keeps crashing, who knows.

Just one suggestion to try :)

Blow all the dust out of it. Those Optiplex's build up tons of dust on the heatsinks.. and Torque 3D is probably working that system to the max.Just one suggestion to try :)

If this is true. I doubt you have enough memory.

Just an FYI.. It should run without crashing if you keep minimal tasks open... Just keep an eye on everything...

I have been having crashes a lot to my seems to be a result of the torque windows loosing focus. as long as I'm working in it it is fine but if I alt tab away for more than a couple minutes it crashes.

I saw your other post as well. Just for an FYI.. mine was running for about 30 minutes in background and did not have any problems.
However, I am running Vista.. With XP I never had any luck with Alt-Tab with any game without hanging my sound up (my older system).

This maybe a possible fix.

@James have you tried appling one CPU sololy to T3D and run everything else on the other CPU (I'm hoping your running a dual core)? This maybe a possible fix.

I would suggest to anyone running into this issue to build the Debug version of the EXE and run it from the debugger. If you catch the crash in the debugger go to the 'Debug' menu and select 'Save Dump As...' and email me the .DMP file.

The only possible fix is to catch the crash and get a call stack. I would suggest to anyone running into this issue to build the Debug version of the EXE and run it from the debugger. If you catch the crash in the debugger go to the 'Debug' menu and select 'Save Dump As...' and email me the .DMP file.

If thats done, you should not see anywhere as many crashes anymore unless you overload the graphics memory (don't know what they have but likely crap given the age of the system) with textures.

With that amount of RAM, there is one thing especially you have to avoid: TerrainsIf thats done, you should not see anywhere as many crashes anymore unless you overload the graphics memory (don't know what they have but likely crap given the age of the system) with textures.

Worst case he'd have the swap available, since that's just the physical memory... I'm not sure what's the point of searching blindly when he could just debug it...

I won't argue that... But it's not blinldy searching.. First thing is to see if the computer meets the min requirements...

It Actually Happens Most When im working on roads, rivers, and terrains. I think theres a glitch that causes it to crash. But memory is definately a problem.
