Seeking a Torque Tutor in LA

Hi,

I'm looking for a game designer knowledgeable in TGEA to walk me through the development process with this engine and help me understand its strengths and limitations. I'm new to game design but want to get one off the ground whatever it takes. TGEA seems like a logical starting place. I'd like to understand the basic workflow as well as gain a better understanding of the built in AI in Torque and what it's capable of. I'm in Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley. Alternatively, is there some sort of development group in LA where Torque game designers meet? Or are there other resources to demystify the process and design capabilities of this engine? I'm willing to pay. Thanks.

What are you interested in learning? Your profile says "screenwriting" and "writing game scripts". If you're interested in writing story for a game, then I think you should join a team where other people will do the (code, visual art, level design, sound/music etc).

You're right. And that's my intent. I want to form an interactive company and hook up with talented coders, and artists. I'd like to learn more about Torque so that I can develop and produce games. To do this I need to understand the workflow and how to pull the pieces together. I also need to understand the limitations of the engine. For example, can cut scenes be integrated into the games and how does that work?. What format are they in? How does the built in AI work and what can it do. How hard is it to code additional AI into a game? I know I can't build Uncharted or Resident Evil in Torque, but story is important to me and I don't just want to do multiplayer shooters. You get what I mean. I could probably find all this information by reading all the documentation and blogs, but I prefer to get one on one tutoring to speed the learning curve. I must say, the documentation I've read so far is quite disorganized and there doesn't seem to be anything that takes one from beginning to end of the process. It all assumes that the reader is already a developer. The best book I've read so far, believe it or not, is Torque for Teens. It's aimed at a younger crowd (which I'm decidedly not) but is a good primer on Torque and how the pieces come together. Unfortunately, it's a general overview and doesn't go far enough to suit my needs.

If you know a good torquescript guy or gal I could even work long distance, but it would probably be easier to have someone in LA where I live.

Thanks so much for your feedback. If you're interested in talking about it, let me know. Thanks again!
