XNA 3.1 is OUT - now??

by aPoCaLiV · in Torque X 2D · 06/11/2009 (2:53 pm) · 21 replies

Good morning,
i was planning to buy Torque X 2D but as i read on the website it is for the XNA 3.0 version. Now XNA 3.1 is out (with many amazing features and bug fixes), when Torque X will support XNA 3.1?
Best Regards

    This question is very important.

Torque X is in the process of getting upgraded to XNA 3.1 compatible - but I don't have a release timeframe I can give you at this time. If this changes, I will post back here, but for now I just wanted to let you know it's being worked on.

If I purchase a Creator's Club membership this month, will the license include the 3.1-compatible version of Torque X when it comes out?

I've just posted a blog about this. There are no changes to Torque X 3.0 needed to support Torque X 3.1 - just open your game project, right-click the project name, select "Upgrade Solution", and you're all set. Just read the warnings in the blog before upgrading in case you plan to release your game to Xbox Live Community Games anytime soon.

Something is wrong, I can't build the 2D template after upgrading it without an error and a warning:

Warning 2 Found conflicts between different versions of the same dependent assembly.Game

I get the same error when upgrading the 2D template as well.

(I asked you this because of the new XNA 3.1 features like in-game videos, LIVE Avatars..., if will be integrated in Torque X).
However will be possible to publish a game developed with Torque X to the DreamBuildPlay competition? (If you know this)...i think yes.

By "upgrade", you mean that you have upgraded to the 3.1 project format, correct? Not just simply updating the installer from XNA 3.0 to XNA 3.1 - If so, it sounds like a conflict the Binary version of Torque X (which is still linked to XNA 3.0) and the game project (linked to XNA 3.1). Which means, we'll need new DLLs that are linked to 3.1. I'll rebuild them and post for both of you to try out.

Yes. That is correct John. Looking forward to the updated DLLs.

I'm assuming that if we had the source code for TorqueX we could make this update our seleves and recompile right? I currently have the version from the XNA Creator's Club so I'm assuming that the source code doesn't come with that version - am I correct?

No, source doesn't come with the CC version, which begs the question, when will we be getting the binaries built with XNA 3.1? As I'm sure you all know, the DBP deadline is coming up and without those binaries, no one who's using the CC version of TX will be able to submit.

Any word on this? Given all the problems I've had upgrading from TXB2 to TXB3 (the project upgrade wizard didn't work and I've had to rebuild my entire project file by file, which is ongoing), I have to assume the jump from 3.0 to 3.1 may also not go smoothly, and if I have to rebuild from the ground up again I'd rather start that now rather than 2 days before the DBP deadline.

Any word on getting a hold of the dlls that reference 3.1? Garage Games planning to update or are they bug fixing before they release an official version?

Torque X 3.1 is out now, along with an updated PSK. Check your account to download 'em. :)

    One word: SWEET!

Edit - Oh wait, it's not available for Creator's Club yet? Damn, is it at least being reviewed by MS?

    Luis,
Actually all you need for the 2d version is the binary, which is out as the demo. Im not sure about the 3d as the 2d is all Im worried about right now.

I see that there's a "Torque X" with no version or ignition key in my account now. Is that TX3.1? And if so, does it not require an ignition key to work? I'd like to install it but I'm somewhat wary of installing a new version on a Friday and then not being able to program all weekend if it doesn't work.

    @Talcott:
No, if it just says "Torque X", I believe that is just the old version (2.0). On the Products page, it should have one called "Torque X 2D". Clicking on download should go to a page with a link called "Torque X 2D 3.1".

Of course, one guy found some problems with the 3.1 version.
