problem with linked materials

Hey guys,

So T3D is pretty awesome so far! I'm having a little trouble with the material system though. Lets say I have 2 objects and both objects have a material with the same name. It looks like torque 3d links those 2 together to save resources and editing time but i think there may be a bug here.

Basically when i have a linked material, it just shows up as pure white on both objects and any changes i try to apply to the material in the editor never take effect. Is this a bug or user error? Any work arounds?

Thanks!

Yep user error heh.

Ok so heres what happened- When i imported the 2nd object that had materials with the same names object 1 had, all of the materials became linked to object 2's texture reference. Well, the texture was not in the folder where the reference was pointing to so now both objects had blank textures.

Now the problem is having to rename my objects materials so they dont Map to each other. I guess ill just have to re-export them and change material names unless someone knows a better way.

We are hoping to address this after Beta 3.

They have the same material name, but its all good I fixed the problem ones. I left the materials that had the same name and same texture map (I have a grass material that is the same everywhere). I just renamed the material in max for those materials with different maps but same name.

Either way, im quite impressed with the way Torque 3d handles a lot of polygons. I have several large detailed buildings with around 40,000 polys each, one going as high as 120,000 polys and 21 different materials :D. Yes, still runs good too.

Sadly this isn't going to get fixed before 1.0. We will revisit it for a later release.
