Hit/Collision boxes

I was wondering if anyone out there had any bright ideas about this. I also dont own 3DS max yet so I havnt played around with it to find out.
In GEV there will be a few vehicles that can act as troop transports. I would like the players on the vehicle to be able to move around and disambark easily I WILL NOT use the instantanious "run up to a vehicle and transform into a seat" method if I can help it. In games such as Tribes2 the hit box makes it difficult to stand on a vehicle because the player has a tendancy to slide off. Is there a way to give a section of the hit box friction so the players can stay on the vehicle and at the same time keep the hit box intact.
For example an open topped troop carrying truck would hold 8 players. I would like them to be able to move around on the back but at the same time the back bed must still have the ability to be shot/take damage.
Any ideas?

I think they dident want you to use vehicles for pedistals in tribes, so they made em hard to stay on.
(theres no reason to stand on a strike except to get in)
you could even make it sticky if you want, to keep players from sliding off.
you just need a coder who knows tribes to change it.
