Jeff, please go for it if it's in your desires and I'll be one of the many who would vote for you.
Quite honestly, I think the work you guys have done to make GG as awesome as it is gives enough reason for election. You would be able to speak out on behalf of the indie developer as well as bring the industry more appreciation and relational support.
I do hope you run for a seat here as a board member, but I'll respect your decision either way.
To my fellow developers, I hope you would all support this as well.

I checked out the IGDA site.. but I'm still wondering.. What does the IGDA do? ..other than developers shmoozing with other developers.

I particapate with the DC & Vicinity chapter and it's more than just developers shmooozing. We have educational presentations, one we had was by a lawyer who talked about intellectual property rights. Now we are also having our first Game Developer Incubator Project (GDIP). We will be working in teams over a 6 month period developing a puzzle game and we will be getting judged on our performance as a team. The schmoozing is part of it and it can be a big benefit. I've had several opportunities because of it. Another perk is that you can present your work to everyone and get a pat on the back :)
