Web games in TGB?

by baylor wetzel · in Torque Game Builder · 05/28/2009 (3:52 pm) · 14 replies

The site says you can make Web games in TGB but i don't see any details on how. Is there another product you need to buy? If so, where's the documentation on that and what's it cost?

There is no integrated functionality.
Web games is potentially in relation to the Instant Action SDK

Alternatively there are things like OSAKit that will allow you to have webdeploy

All TGB Web Games to date have been made either through InstantAction or through a custom solution by a developer. However, we are working on integrating the Torque 3D and Torque 2D codebase so that the two can share functionality. While it's too soon to tell how that might affect Torque 2D, we are hoping to be able to take advantage of Torque 3D's out-of-box web deployment tech.

Deborah,

Any Idea of how soon this will be available for TGB?

Jason,

The absolute earliest would be a late summer release of a beta candidate for Torque 2D. However, we're still working out some major development issues, which could push us back. That's why we haven't announced much officially yet.

Is T2D the same as TGB or is it the next version of TGB?

T2D is the next generation of TGB (it also happens to be the initial name before it was named TGB :). I hope GG don't rush it. I can wait till autumn or later this year. After all, they seem intent on integrating bits of T3D, and with that not actually being released yet, it's probably wisest to finish it before porting over the good bits :)

We've been quiet on Torque 2D development as we work through Torque 3D's release. Melv and the Torque 2D team have been working hard behind the scenes, though; and we will have a lot of good stuff to share.

Sorry for upping this topic again :)

I've seen an interesting thing on Gamasutra today. It's InstantAction integration to Facebook with a screenshot of Monkey Island (and eventually Braid one's on IA website). Does the Torque2D team succeed to make it happen ?

Portalarium, the company I work for, has created a web plugin that enables any engine (with a bit of work) to be embedded in any web browser. Our first game, Sweet @$! Poker, is built with TGB and runs seamlessly within Facebook because of our plugin.

We're also giving this tech away free to any interested developers. Visit our website for more information (http://www.portalarium.com).

Check out the game and see what's possible with TGB on the web. http://apps.facebook.com/sweet_poker

Stephen I got the impression from the website that Portalarium is only available to established companies rather than indie developers. Is this correct? If so, what criteria do you use to determine who you distribute your technology to?

I'm also interested in Portalarium. The poker game looks and runs great :) More info on how it works with TGB and also how you got TGB communicating with the Facebook API would be much appreciated.

So Portalarium will allow us to have TGB games playable on our own websites? That's cool. I'll have to check back on that when I finish my game.
