Torque 3D Builder Beta 2

by Wesley McDermott · in Torque X 3D · 05/26/2009 (8:19 am) · 12 replies

Hi,

I've just downloaded TXB 3D from my XNA Creators Club Membership. I'm very excited to use the builder, but I've noticed that I don't see any of the functionality that was shown in the Beta 2 Vimeo videos such as the Material Editor. Also, the interface for Beta 2 looks to have much more functionality. Are things like the Material Editor missing in TXB 3D version 3.0.0?

As a Creative Club Member, do I have access to the Beta? I don't see it in my products page.

Thanks,

Wes

Sorry Wesley, there is no such thing as "torque 3d builder", it seems you're confusing Torque3d with TorqueX3d.

The engines you're looking for are the TorqueX based products. Go to the site menu and select "engines > for consoles > TorqueX 2d/or/3d".

I see. So Torque3D is not the same as TorqueX3D. TorqueX3D is for XNA based games, which is what I need. The world builder and material editor comes only with Torque3D. Is this correct?

There is a world builder with TorqueX3D, but it doesn't seem to have near the features of Torque3D. Is the builder the for both platforms supposed to be the same?

Thanks,

Wes

@Wesley-
No, John Kanalakis wrote the TXB3D from scratch and it uses XNA. T3D on the other hand is kinda the latest in engines that started with the first 2 Tribes games. Another major difference is that in T3D the Editor is built into the game engine whereas it is a separate thing in TX3D. So I guess the short answer is they are not supposed to be the same. :)

Is there any idea of future timeline if/when the tools for Torque X will be expanded?

For this 'inexpensive' line of XNA-based of software, I am sure there is an expectation of 'community involvement'.

So, where would be the best place to check in such tools?

  1. Codeplex?
  2. SourceForge?
  3. Google code?
  4. As GG resources?
  5. Other?

All the above... I have found quite a bit of stuff on Google Code. Mostly over a year old but still useful.

I'm starting to think that maybe someone needs to start updating the TDN Wiki with links to resources/blogs/posts that are useful (I've kinda got a private stash of links I keep in another Wiki so I'm sure others have some too). It would be nice if we had a better search feature on this site and a way to differentiate resources from each other rather than jamming them all together. Any thoughts?

I think that it would be great if we started updating the Torque X section on TDN. I've just started using it and would greatly appreciate any help that I can get and be able to post up things that I think will help other people.

I'm actually quite surprised at the lack of posts in this forum and the lack of interest in the product in the XNA forums.

When I get home, I'll take a look at at it, and see what we could do with it. I may just make a page of the best links I've found and other people could add to it.

hi everyone, I think it would be great to have some resource for tx3d. I really want to start using it but I have no idea how to use the tx 3d editor beyond importing an object. Just to be sure, we are talking about torque x. 3d and not torque 3d. I was confused earlier and thought the 3d editor for torque x 3d and torque 3d was the same thing. I wish they were. torque 3d's editor looks much more robust.

if anyone has anything to share on using tx3d, please let me know. I'm completely lost.

thanks,

Hey all, I started a community links section on the Tutorials/Reference section of TDN. I'm thinking like a community bookmark area for good stuff that might otherwise get lost or doesn't have articles/components/resources about them. Anyway, check it out and add to it!

tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/TX/Tutorials_and_Guides

Edit:
It is at the bottom of the page and is called Community Links
