Learning Torque X 3D

by Kevin31 · in Torque X 3D · 05/24/2009 (8:38 am) · 10 replies

Hi,
I'm new to Torque X, and I don't want to program 2D, but the tutorials I found were only for 2D programming. So I ask, are there any 3D tutorials available?
I've taken a short look at the 2D Tutorials and they seem to be very good, hopefully there are also some for 3D...
Thanks in advance.

Ok...but isn't there any tutorial series for 3D like it is for 2D.
I mean where do I learn how to use the 3D editor, how do I create a big textured terrain, how can I add water/shadows/trees to the scene, etc.
It seems that there isn't anything like this available... :(

As far as i know not yet for TX 3D, however they are working on it. Hopefully soon we 3D owners will have some good documentation and samples, and an update for the builder ehm .:cough:. .:cough:. :P

Best Regards,
Tilan.

OK thanks for the answers.
Then I'll have to wait...
And the 3D builder crashes sometimes, and I get black screen...then I have to reboot my computer (vista)...

I can't believe there is hardly any tutorials or documentation on tx3d. I would really like to use it, but I have no idea how. Is anyone successfully using tx 3d?

I did find a 5 month old video that was supposed to have a part two, see my vimeo video post, but there's been nothing sense.
I wonder if even GG knows how to use it? I sure wish they'd create some docs and tutorials instead of relying on us to do it.

More docs and tutorials will follow after Torque 3D is released.

I'm using it, but so far, there's nothing I can do to get the rigidcomponent and velocity to work on a consistant basis. Unless I move the mouse around while the object is moving. That seems to kick it into processing the tick... or something.

@Michael:

So we can expect TorqueX 3D docs this time next year ;)

Just kidding... Torque 3D is moving forward nicely. However, I am a little concerned that the docs for a released product (TorqueX 3D) are dependent on a higher profile, un-released product (Torque 3D). Oh well, I guess that means I will have more time to have fun figuring it out myself :P

@Adam - That's certainly one way to look at it =) After five years of use, I still get a kick out of learning about new code I've never used while writing docs.

Just to clarify, one product is not necessarily dependent on the other. It's just how the dev cycles break down. I write documentation during the dev cycle of a product. When one cycle ends, I either start on the next project or circle back to other engines while I wait for the next one.
