Loaded FPS scene is not rendered and crashes

I open the project of the FPS demo.
Then I open the scene desertPhysics.
The scene explorer shows a lot of objects but my viewport stays grey.
When I select the XTerrain and click on "To Object" to move the camera the editor crashes.

I'm seeing the same thing as you but my scene already has that camera in there by default. I am unable to load a previously saved scene. Almost everything I touch in this thing causes it to crash with a null reference error or simply shut down with no error. GarageGames guys, whats up with all the crashes?

The biggest reason for this is that the 3D Builder has trouble with project paths that contain a period - and the "Torque X 3.0.0.0" path name drives it crazy. I believe I was able to get the FPS demo loaded by copying it to another folder without a period in the folder path. Give that a try. In the meantime, it's on the bug list. John K.

Whatever i do, it seems to open up a completely different scene file, or corrupts whatever i am trying to open, when trying to open any FPS scene file. Oh well back to learning from the code, while waiting for the book to arrive.
