Black terrain/dts/shapes on ATI HD4870

by Kyrah Abattoir · in Torque 3D Professional · 05/04/2009 (8:47 am) · 16 replies

It seems there is a bug with the ati hd4870, something about lighting that fail.

-the living room map work properly.
-the camp, white room and the marble blast level show black.

I don't know if it already got reported before so pardon me if it was.
I suppose this bug is related to the card/driver, as i just upgraded from a nvidia8800GTX where the demo worked fine.

You should look at the fixes thread. I think that first one will solve it for you.

Yep i just tried , that's not it, it'snot just the terrain, it's all the geometries, minus effects, sky, grass and water.

Not sure how you do it on ATI cards... but be sure that the driver isn't set to force antialiasing on the Torque EXE. Make sure that is disabled/application controlled.

I've had the same issue on my computer, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 running Vista. I noticed when I created a new project, the issue did not exist, until I changed screen size, changed post FX and restarted, etc. So on a hunch, I deleted the prefs script file from the client folder, and so far no further issues. I just stay away from touching any settings, since I've no need to change anything just yet anyhow. Any bugs from that point on with the lighting seems to resolve with just a switch to basic, then back to advanced.

Same problem here. Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT. Windows XP, latest drivers and directX installed. When using advanced ligting system everything is black (a part for grass that's visible) and terrain is transparent. Using Basic Lighting it works right.

never seen that.
gt8800 video card.
why am I answering such?
to give bug hunters a point of comparison, maybe a bug only with certain cards?

Same problem here with a 7600gt, easy to repro as I have "broken" both the FPS demo and my own project. All I did to cause it was change the resolution while running the World Editor.

I'm starting to wonder if it was actually driver related on my side.

@deepscratch: It's my SecondLife avatar, and thank you :)

I have two desktops both running 8800GTS’s and a laptop running a GeForce GT 120M. I am experiencing black terrain on one of the desktops and the other has everything flickering from normal to black while in Advanced Lighting mode. Switching to basic lighting fixes the terrain problem on both desktops (after impleminting the provided fix). I have updated the drivers and the problem continues. Everything works perfectly on the laptop, so I’m going to assume my video cards are to blame. Just posting this in hopes that it helps you guys.

How can be driver related if I have a Geforce and you an Ati? It-s clearly a BUG!

I saw same problem with ATI HD3470 on my laptop but It works fine with ATI RadeonX1550 and NVIDIA 8800 GTS. I didn't decide it is really engine bug or just driver issue.

PS. with ATI HD3470 When I disable advanced lighting feature it works fine too.
