Torque 3D Beta 1 Bug - DDS files are not loaded in Terrain Painter

by Konrad Kiss · in Torque 3D Professional · 05/01/2009 (4:22 pm) · 5 replies

When creating a new terrain paint layer and adding DDS files (tested with base and normal maps only) the material created in the Terrain Materials Editor does not appear - neither the thumbnails, nor the maps on the terrain.

I think you might @HAVE@ to have a detail texture for anything to go through. At least that's what I just found with pngs.

edit:"HAVE", ruddy US keyboard settings!

Well, I had all 3 textures set, haven't tried without one or another. The base and the normal were DDS-es, and the detail was a png.

The detail appeared fine on the NO MATERIAL base, but the base map and the normal map were missing.

Looked pretty weird.. took me a while to realize that the base map is not being loaded, because I started testing it with a sandy desert texture, and that NO MATERIAL yellow bg with a decent detail texture looks pretty convincing as sand at first glance. :)

Ahh I've seen the same problem, didn't realize that was what was happening, but now that its mentioned here, that has to be what it was. I had a DDS texture with a heightmap in it for the diffuse, was trying to figure out the normal map stuff, but the texture didn't appear at all, only the detail map did, which was a jpg.

The normal and parallax map support on terrain is not working in this beta build. It should be back up and running in beta 2.
