BUG: Groundcover and Advanced Lighting Shadow issue

by Matt Kronyak · in Torque 3D Professional · 05/01/2009 (1:10 am) · 9 replies

Ground cover that should be in front of a distant shadow will still be effected by the shadow, even if the ground cover is very far away. This doesn't appear to be a case of the shadow being visible behind the ground cover, but rather the shadow drawing in front of the ground cover. fxFoliageReplicator does not appear to have this issue.

Here are some screenshots to demonstrate this issue:

@Matt, currently GroundCover isn't rendered into the depth prepass, so this is expected.

@Ross: Thinking about how ground cover works vs how fxFoliageReplicator works, I can see why it would behave like this. It's definitely a minor visual issue and the performance from ground cover as its designed is excellent.

@Matt, the plan is to get it into the depth pass eventually, but it wasn't super high priority, so it just hasn't been done yet.

I'll look at this soon.... i want to get accurate shadows and lighting on the ground cover.

Yep, we are getting 1.0 ready to ship, so some riskier changes are going into a 1.1 branch.

Makes sense. Looking forward to 1.0 as I am sure you are looking forward to getting there :-).
