Differences between TGE and TGEA

Im looking for something that tells me (at a technical level, including tutorials) what the main differences between TGE and TGEA are. I was hoping the TGEA FAQ on the TGEA documentation page would be what I am looking for, but apparently it just links back to the T3D page.

The biggest differences are the rendering and audio subsystems.

If TGEA is a trainwreck, then I recommend everybody start taking the train. TGEA is an excellent engine, if you can get past the minor problems. I have never tried to use Atlas, so I can't really comment on that other than to say that I'm more interested in making a game than a postcard, so it really never interested me all that much. I suppose if Atlas was high on your list when you bought it, that would have made it a bad buy.


There have been some things that I didn't like, or that were not the way I thought they should be, but I tend to view a game engine as a starting point, and don't mind digging in and adding or modifying features that I need. My experience with other engines, including some that cost more than my house, is not far removed from my experience with TGEA. There are more advanced features with a greater degree of polish in the higher-end engines, but there's also a number of half-baked features that aren't completely polished, or are outright broken, but are not removed entirely because the licensees may build off of the partial implementations. That's part of the reason you get the source code. In any case you still have to be able to do quite a bit of technical programming on your own to take advantage of any game engine.

Well said Gerald.
I maintain two engine license that cost more then most people homes, yet TGE engines are(so far) so much more fun to work with being basic enough in design to flex almost any direction i push it. One (other)engine have so many tight features that it is constraining to do anything beyond the 'box' it was designed in (something to keep in mind when discussion PRO/CON of built in features)...
