Removing Mission Area?

The game I'm working on doesn't have 'missions' in the sense that Tribes2 did, as the terrain will be built in such a way as to confine the player to where I want him to go (mountains, walls, etc.) in a given area. It seems like I could get rid of a lot of unneeded code in there if I could remove all the stuff relating to mission timing and such.
Has anyone tried removing the mission area completely from a mission? What things do I need to look out for? Will it cause me some problems that I need to know about before I try it? :)
