Upgrade worth it??

Hey guys, its been a while since i've played with torque. I've got a new project i'm about to work with and i'm kinda noobish with torque... I bought a few books to get be up to speed on the stuff i need to learn/re-learn but the question i have now is with the new 3D engine coming out and TGEA already out, do we have a comparison between TGE, TGEA and T3D? I want to know if it would be worth it for me to upgrade. The project I'm going to be working on should be fine in TGE so i'm thinking I'll just do it with what I have but I'd like suggestions if you guys have any.

If you are doing fine with basic TGE (like me) there shouldn't be any hurry upgrading I think. Eventually upgrade to T3D will be worth it but no hurries.

Without knowing what your goals or specific needs are, it's practically impossible to answer this question.

If you feel that TGE is good enough then by all means continue with it -- it is remarkably stable and supports a wide range of hardware. But do experiment with a TGEa demo - anything you know about Torque Script can be carried forwards to any of the engines. There are several things about TGEa that make it a worthwhile engine, it is more than just shiny effects and fancy shaders. But know that you would start requiring a bit higher range of hardware to truly make use of it. Which is especially true for many of the new features available in Torque 3D also.

Going back to your need to learn/re-learn things for Torque: since it is a family of similar but increasingly capable products there is a lot similitude between all of them. Any knowledge gained in TGE is still relevant in TGEa and in Torque 3D also. Some things will be different in use and practice, but I still use little pieces of code I learned/wrote years ago for TGE in Torque 3D today.
