TGEA 1.8.1 Linux Support?

by Weston Elliott · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 04/14/2009 (4:10 pm) · 4 replies

I am just coming back after a long break from Torque. I see that the new release of TGEA 1.8.1 supports OpenGL and can now be compiled for Mac. Does TGEA also work on Linux now?

No, out of the box there are no support, and it will be hard task to build TGEA on Linux.
But with the new GFX (i.e. OpenGL&DirectX being wrapped by GFX) it much easier to add another platform, though - lots of work to be done in any case (and it could be much easier to build dedicated version for server, no graphics/sound involved if using GFX::Null and SFX::Null providers).

Are there any plans in the future for TGEA Linux support?

Haven't heard of any, though some rumors are flying around. So my answer will be: don't know for sure.

Only GG knows about it.

GG have stated in the past that Linux support is a community thing now, and that they couldn't invest time anymore in maintaining it. Most of the developers seem occupied now with T3D or console development, so I wouldn't hold my breath...
