TGE version of T360?

by Stephen Scott · in Torque Game Engine · 04/12/2009 (10:08 pm) · 6 replies

So I saw on the TGE product page: www.garagegames.com/products/tge, that is said "Develop in Torque and deploy to Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, Wii, iphone, and online".

So is there a version of T360 for TGE? Or is the description there because you can port your TGE game to TGEA and then use it? [I only ask because on the T360 page it only says all of the TGEA and TGB features are in T360]

I know the there is a Torque for Wii, and iTGE, so I just assume there is a T360 for TGE (i think i remember it being possible with codeOnce on the old description page)? Can anyone in GG give me an answer, or can anyone in the community point me to somewhere where this question might have been answered?

Well, for Xbox 360 there's always Torque X http://www.garagegames.com/products/torquex-3d/

And Torque 360.

If I remember right Torque X is the "indie" platform to deploy games on XNA, Torque 360 is for "real" Xbox development (Requires a dev license from Microsoft)

Check out this page for the console engines: http://www.garagegames.com/products/consoles

I only have the TGE license and I haven't looked much at the console engines but I think it's something like what I wrote just now.

I'm guessing that what they mean on the page you linked is that it's easy to port things between the engines.

@Marcus: I would assume like you that they mean you can port, essentially going TGE -> TGEA -> T360. But since there is known Torque forthe Wii, iTorque support, when they have listed 360 support I would imagine that T360 also has TGE in it.

As far as TX goes, I have it, but its not really made for the kind of project I want to do because you can only work on a Community Game with it.

Edit: Actually found my answer on Moddb! In the TGE section (it still has a copy of what the old TGE page used to have about codeonce).

"Code in TorqueScript and/or C++, then run your game on PC, OSX, or even XBox360 (with separate license) with TGE's multi-platform CodeOnce feature... or bring your game into other Torque products, such as Torque Game Engine Advanced."

And based on what i've read everywhere else, porting to T360 then should be no problem for scripts, and just the C++ work will need to be possibly retooled.

------------

I'll still leave this up in case anyone from GG wants to through a more official response up.

You will have to perform a port from TGE to Torque 360. Torque 360 is based on TGEA's codebase with a platform layer for the XDK, as well as other refinements needed for the platform.

David: Thanks for the more official statement, thats what I thought. Quick question for you, why don't you have a GG logo next to your name since you're the community manager?

Probably because I have a wicked special title and no one thought of it when the webteam activated my title.
