XNA 3.0 -> 3.1

by Matthew Hoesterey · in Torque X 2D · 04/09/2009 (10:22 am) · 7 replies

I saw that Microsoft anounced XNA 3.1 and that it will be neccessary for Dream Build Play this year. Will the new drop of Torque X be 3.1 Complient? Or will another update be needed after the 3.0 drop?

Will TXB3D be released before XNA 3.1, or is that what we're waiting for?

We're waiting for the MS certification of TX3D for XNA 3.0. Which shipped last Fall...

Pure speculation: part of the hold-up on MS end *may*be they are testing internally against 3.1 builds, waiting for it to firm up. That would explain a lot.

We can only hope that TX3D for XNA 3.0 will work with little to no changes with XNA 3.1, otherwise this could represent issues for Dream Build Play. 3.1 launches in May sometime, and all Dream Build Play submissions MUST be made on 3.1, starting in as soon as July!

I have no idea if MS requires a recertification of every binary update, or only those for newly upated major XNA releases. I hope the later.

I doubt if Microsoft are the hold up for this. The Microsoft certification program simply doesn't take this long. I've worked for companies that have had to go through the process several times and it's only a matter of days and weeks, not months.

At this stage whatever the hold up is I suspect is entirely in GG hands.

and now there is no vs2005 available, so what are new tx users supposed to do when they download tx2dpro and they find it doesn't work with vs2008
I know people are trying to give GG the benefit of the doubt, but this is so sloppy and stupid
if GG was a public company I'd be shorting the stock.
GG engines are the best out there for now, there's no real competition.
But that won't be forever, and then GG will have to tighten up their act if they want to hang on to their 50 plus employees.
I tried to keep from being an embittered ranter, but alas....

Really? I just DL'd VS2005 and XNA 2.0 from MS Website. OK it was a week ago but it's certainly still on their site.

@Henry

Pop up a link to the download you used as I can't find it and haven't seen it on their site for some time now. All roads point to 2008 as Dan has said.

A link would therefore be useful for anyone else looking for the 2005 version.

Yea it seems MS has removed it from their site in the last week or so, they used to have a link to previous versions. Weird. But nothing disappears from the intarwebs... http://www.freewarefiles.com/downloads_counter.php?programid=17933

you will also need XNA 2.0: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=df80d533-ba87-40b4-abe2-1ef12ea506b7&displaylang=en
