Dynamix Tribes 2 models

As new licensee to the Torque engine, I have a
quick and sincere question:
Since Dynamix released a number of the Tribes 2 models
into the public domain, why is there a problem with
altering said geometry, reskinning and the using them
in current torque projects??
Since those models were released publically, I can't
see ANY ownership issues if the geometry and skins
are altered to the point that they are no longer
recognizable as Tribes 2 models.

If you can absolutely no longer tell they are/were Tribes 2 models, I don't think you have a problem from a legal standpoint.

"Publicly released" means nothing. That just means it was published, like every book or movie you know. Dynamix would retain full copyrights.
"Public Domain" is a specific legal term. If it was used anywhere near the release, it means you can do whatever you want with the models.

Ross - it really is a question of what the terms of the release were."Publicly released" means nothing. That just means it was published, like every book or movie you know. Dynamix would retain full copyrights.
