GUI transparency png image problems

Howdy guys. This doesn't really seem to be a problem with TGEA. It's actually a problem creating my bitmap button images. I create my images in flash mx 2004 and export it as a png. I then open it in paint shop pro 7 and set the pallet transparency to hide all the white in the picture. This worked fine with ym first image. I created a helmet with the word play under it in black. Exported and set the transparency and when I used the image in TGEA it worked fine. However, when I was creating the image for the options button I came across an odd problem. I made a blacksmith hammer with a shadow under it and under all that the word options in black. Then exported to a png like I did with the play button. But when I open it to set transparency all the white background is black and the word options is gone (my guess because everything is black it blends). The hammer and it's shadow are still there correctly though. Anyone heard of his kind of problem before?

The shadow is a light grey. The hammer is a mix of greys and browns and the lettering was completly black. I'll try changing colors around a bit.

Yeah, I find it's best to use Magenta, which is also helpful if you want to see when parts of the transparency aren't working, but you otherwise can't tell because the whole thing is dark (it sticks out like a sore thumb).

Yep, problem solved. Thanks a bunch!

For transparency purposes, I usually use magenta- there's no use for it in a GUI (unless you're trying to burn the retinas out of your player's head, hehe...).
