TGEA or 3D??

by Ty Huffman · in General Discussion · 03/27/2009 (4:12 pm) · 1 replies

I want to create a FPS with little games in the game, so which is best solution for me, or how are both products linked? I got it in my brain that TGEA is for building the game, while 3D is more about the environment. Am I just waayy off base with that?? I am working on getting the .ter files needed for the terrain, but what is a good source of info on how to work up the terrain files prior to importing? I can bring the .ter files into Terragen, work up the files then import into a Torque product (TGEA or 3D or both) but do I need to preprocess in Terragen, or can I work up in a Torque product?

Thanks

Ty

They both are for creating a game. Torque 3D is just the next (upcoming) incarnation of the Torque Game Engine.

You'll import a heightmap of your terrain into Torque for painting and further sculpting -- not the .ter file from Terragen -- for Legacy or Mega-terrains.

Atlas terrains (which will not be in Torque 3d) for TGEa can only be designed/edited in outside programs, I never tried using Terragen for Atlas but you can read about it in this Using Terragen with Atlas tutorial.
