Upgrading my version of torque.

by Brian Rogers · in Torque Game Engine · 03/26/2009 (8:23 am) · 4 replies

Currently I have version 1.4.2 or something like that, I purchased it back in 2006. Is it possible to upgrade mine to the latest version of the torque game engine (not the advance because thats a seperate purchase correct?). I want to get back into using torque since I am now a student in the game software development degree.

I'm interested in upgrading from TGE to Torque3D when it gets released. How can I find out what changes I should expect before the release date? For example, will the Torque language be different? Will there be any libraries deprecated or removed? Is the networking architecture different?

In a nutshell, should I expect my current TGE code base to be compatible with the new version of Torque3D?

Thanks!

Your scripts should be compatible, though there will probably be some path differences since the directory structure has changed. Any C++ source changes are hit or miss depending on your codebase and the code refactor for Torque 3D.

You will need to upgrade to TGEA and then to Torque 3D to take advantage of the pre-order/TGEA discount combination.
