Noob Question

Ok I am sure this has been asked a million times but I can't find a direct answer. I am new to game development but have enjoyed what I have done so far. I guess I am a bit confused on the various versions of engines Torque offers. My question is for the start I only want to mess around with 2D gaming, learn the basics, blah, blah, and then maybe someday advance to 3D. I downloaded a trial of TGB and have been able to get whack a mole going, even with the errors in the tutorial, and have been able to add a few things to it. Still I have a lot to learn. So am I right to assume TGB will create 2D but you can not create 2D in TGEA? In other words, if I purchase TGEA I would have to create 3D and could not do 2D to learn? I don't want to have to purchase both versions to find out what I could have just purchased TGEA and have the best of both worlds. Also I have looked around this site a lot and did find some where that a newer version is coming, should I just hold off and wait for that? Also if I was to purchase TGB is there a discount that applies to TGEA if I wanted to upgrade? Basically I am a college student with limited funds, I can purchase one right now and want to get the best I can get for the money. Each time I read posts I get more confused with old information and not sure what applies to today. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

If you want to do 2D, TGB is the way to go. TGEA is geared towards 3D and is nowhere near the level of sophistication of TGB for creating 2D games (no behaviors, etc).

It's also true that T3D is coming out and about to go into pre-order mode, but that's the next generation of TGEA, so not something you need to worry about. Unfortunately, there's no upgrade path that I'm aware of between TGB and TGEA.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your quick reply. It looks like TGB is what I will get. If I find myself doing well and enjoying it I will look towards T3D. Thanks again.
