Converting 3ds materials to textures?

Warning, I'm a 3ds newbie.

Torque only supports textures to change the appearance of an object. Many 3DS models are shaded using non-texture based materials. Is there any utility to generate textures from these materials or is there a way within 3ds max to do this?

You probably mean proceduarl textures and there are numerous utilities on the market that can do this for you (such as Bake3D, Flatten, and the new Render to Texture utility that is built into Max R5 are a few examples of such utilities).
