WorldCraft question

by Matias Pecile · in Torque Game Engine · 07/01/2001 (3:30 pm) · 7 replies

sorry, I feel retarded, and I feel like I am bothering people too :(

but:

will the engine have some kind of patch for world craft or a special copy, because right now worldcraft only works with half life, and I don't have it :(

That's not a stupid question! We have all been waiting for the tool called Morian that will convert our WorldCraft models into V12/Tribes2 compatible models. There is another thread about Morian and a 3dMax plugin for exporting Max models but it has gone quiet. And before you ask the inevitable question, "Where can I get it?" we have been given several reasons/excuses as to why Morian has not been released: 1) It's too buggy and isn't documented well, 2) Politics with Sierra and staying on their good side before releasing the V12 code.

There was a limited "beta testing" release to a few mod makers one of which has not made it past the modeling phase(that truck driving, hick thing)and has thrown in the towel. I suppose if you want to release tools for making buildings to a truck driving mod, well then I guess they aren't going to test Morian very well, are they?

Sorry. I'm tired of having our mod on hold. I have been waiting for these tools for a while and if Sierra/Dynamix is not going to release them, that leaves us with GG. If we accept that the tools are not polished, then go ahead and release them. And if it's Sierra we are to worry about, this is a fly on Sierra's bovine ass. They only care if more copies of Tribes 2 gets sold and that's what mods are all about. We perpetuate the life of a game much to the pleasure of the distributors and creators. Do we have to bring up CounterStrike and HalfLife to illustrate the point?

In Worldcaft you can use different game definition files (.fgd) that allows you to define entities that are specific to the game/engine. FOr example, the entities in Counterstrike are different from those in Half-Life so they have two separate game definition files. The v12's game definition file will be included when it is released allowing you to build maps specifically for the v12. After you build the geometry and add all of the entities (lights and portals and stuff) you then export the structures to a .map file. To get your structure into the v12 you have to convert it to a .dif file using the included map2dif tool (used to be morian).

Dynamix has released the Morain tools. You can download them at the Tribes2 Central Download site. These tools may differ slightly from those Garage Games will be releasing, but they will work with the engine. They also have WorldCaft itself available for download on the same site.

wow thanks for the help guys. The mapping thing has been eating away at me for a couple of months, and I apreciate that you guys helped me solve the problem.

I am mainly just asking if there are pre-releases on things to get down and dirty ready for the real thing. Sorry if I got on anyone's back lately for being so persistant on my questions
