I heard MoM was developed with Python instead of C++. Is that correct? What are your thoughts on it?
Do you guys recommend me learning C++ or Python for MMORPG genre?
Which is easier to learn? Which is more powerful?
Yeah, I know I am really unprofessional when I am on forums. I do have manners =D

I'm a big fan of learning as many languages as possible. So my recommendation is to start with C++, and once you understand most of the concepts, feel free to branch out into other languages; they'll be a lot easier to learn once you get a grip on one. Then you have more flexibility in how you develop your game.

You'll almost certainly want to learn C++, unless you go the XNA route and learn C#. I'm a big fan of learning as many languages as possible. Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to learn C++ enough to bend the game engine to make it work effectively in MMORGs and have quests etc? I think it would take really long.

Okay, Thanks. I am not really starting to learn anything right now and just sticking with research on MMORGs. But, I think I am going to start with C++, and then if I feel that I need to learn other languages, I should start learning them.Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to learn C++ enough to bend the game engine to make it work effectively in MMORGs and have quests etc? I'd say a few months on the low end to really start feeling comfortable with it, and probably a couple of years before you really know what you're doing.
I've been programming for over 20 years and I'm still learning new things every day, so it will be an ongoing learning experience, but if you're a quick learner you'll probably start being able to do things without just copying code from books in a few months.

That really depends on how you learn it, your aptitude for it, and certain other preexisting knowledge. If you have a solid math foundation it will take you less time. If you have a good analytical foundation, it will take you less time. If you're good at self-teaching with books and tutorials, it will take you less time.I'd say a few months on the low end to really start feeling comfortable with it, and probably a couple of years before you really know what you're doing.

Where can I get started (books, video tutorial dvds)? Just some recommendations.

Also knowing something about C'code is still rather handy no matter what task you do in the industry of game development, it kinda sets a common foundation and allows even the game artist to communicant with the programmers, writers and designers to express ideas to the programmers and know what is technically possible.
Manners and emotions should never actually effect the free flow of information, just the manner that information is conveyed, but often people mistake the fact we are all strangers with a common similarity (Torque game development as in the forums here), and not children in the playground, defending 'opinions and assumptions' . As long as your detailed and to the point, manners dont have anything to do with it!
