trueSpace DTS exporter

by Brad Hollister · in Artist Corner · 01/04/2003 (1:10 pm) · 14 replies

Is there a plugin for trueSpace, that allows exporting of the DTS file format? I don't understand why 3DSMax is the only animation program that is currently supported by the Torque engine?

Actually a couple people are presently making a scn2dts exporter. The rest of us are just waiting till they post it heh. Truespace is much cheaper then 3dSM and actually im buying it today in hopes of a exporter soon.

If things don't go well with the exporter they are working on and all the truespace users want to chip in for an exporter, I'm available for contract work to create an exporter.

I'm actively working on a scn2dts exporter. If people are going to pitch in cash for another developer to create an exporter, all I ask is that you be straight up with me. There are many other things I can work on and I was going to turn over my exporter to the community for free. However, nothing will dishearten me more than to know I'm spending my time creating a free exporter if people are just going to pay another developer to create one.

MadCap I think Tim just wants to help us TS peeps out..as a last resort. I Purchased TS 4.3 so if you need Help testing it ill help out. Its just i am not smart enough to create a exporter on my own and i have herd of a few people making an exporter for the past little while and none of them have surfaced (This is not a compliant). But i am to the point now where i am willing to shell out a few bucks to have one. But dont get me wrong if i can get it for free well your name will be within the credits of my game :OP

I understand that. I didn't mean to sound harsh. It's just that these things take time and I'm putting every available minute I have into this thing (available time meaning every minute I'm not working on my game or my day job). I too want to see an exporter released.

I have come a long way with the exporter and will have an alpha release very soon. I believe you'll be happy with the exporter and the useability provided.

Oh, and no credit is necessary. With me, it's all about time. Thank you though for the thought :)

Mac, nobody will pay for anyone to write an exporter while you're writing yours. As has been said, I think Tim was just offering his services in the event that your exporter falls through.

I'd be more then willing to do some testing too when the alpha version is ready. From what you've mentioned about the exporter in another thread Mac it sounds like it will be worth the wait :)

My apologies, I overreacted.

I want to see alternatives to 3d Max for torque. I would like to be able to do one for free but at this time I'd need cash for my time spent. And yes I was providing this in case the current planned exporter was canceled or something, as that sort of thing happens all the time. If you can develop yours and have it working like the 3d max exporter then that will be great, then all we will need is a maya exporter and we will have most of all the favorite modelling programs covered.

Also if your willing to pay some cash for an exporter now, I'd suggest donating the money to the current developer after he gets it working and its publically available. Just because you dont have to pay for something doesn't mean you shouldn't. Can't pay in cash then maybe he would accept some models for his game. You dont have to give a lot, just what you are comfortable with to show him you appreciate his hardwork in bringing something for free that no one else has taken the time to do.

Thanks for the kind words Tim. I just want to make it absolutely clear that I never intended to attack anyone with my comments above, especially Tim. I understand that we all want support for tools other than the mighty mighty Max.

I guess when I first read it I panicked and thought I was moving so slowly on it that people were losing hope. Anyway, I would delete my comment above but I typed it, so I'll leave it.

I've updated my .plan to define the release schedule and my current status. Have a look and drop me a line if you have any comments.

Fredrick, I, unfortunately, had to take a hiatus from GG for a while for personal/professional reasons. I understand that there are a couple of exporters in the works other than mine. I also believe that they are a bit further than mine is, so I'm no longer developing mine at the moment.

It is a functioning "Alpha" exporter though, and you can download it at my (weak) website, www.liquid-impact.com

Please forgive the site, I haven't had time to properly build one. Also, please be sure to read the readme.txt file. If for some reason I should continue development, I will.
