Must you sell?

I was wondering. Must you sell the game once it's completed or can you just give it away out of the kindness of your heart?
I know that any game I create won't be high enough in the standars to make the market, so I thought, well at least I am learning things. So I thought, give it away and at least people will get to play it.
I am also wondering that if you don't make money of any projects, could you bend the license a little... This was just a thought though, nothing more
EDIT: I also wanted to thank all of the employees here at GarageGames for making our lives easier. I apreciate all the work being done on the engine

As for bending the license, they'd be opening themselves to problems if they started doing that. If they bend it for you, then they have to bend it for this other guy... It would be a nightmare for their legal team. Of course, you didn't really mention what section of the license you wanted bent. Personally, I really don't see anything in the license that I heavily disagree with, and I might add that it's probably the easiest-reading EULA I've ever read. Hardly reads like legalese (of course, I've been reading Microsoft EULA's).

The game can be given away, I'm sure. Although, it's possible that any V12-based completed-project would have to go by GG to see if they wanted to charge for it (if they have a higher opinion of your product than you do). I'm not sure if we, the licensees, have the final say in whether or not we can have the game freely distributed. However, it's entirely possible that (through my EULA interpretation) GG would be the sole location from which your game might be downloaded. Not that that's a bad thing, in my opinion, since you can still market the game off of your own website. You just aim the hyperlink to GarageGames for downloading purposes. As for bending the license, they'd be opening themselves to problems if they started doing that. What if we want to release a beta version for public testing?
Would the agreement allow us to do this?

YOu can give your game away for free. GG has stated that your totally in charge on what your game costs, be it free or $100, $200, whatever you want, tho heh $100 for a game is expensive and you won't get many sales.

the license thing was just a thought. I don't really care for bending it or not. But I thought that since you are not making money of the thing then the license doesn't really apply. But I still have a a lot to learn about the legal stuff.

V12 is covered by Copyright law (and Trade-Mark law but's lets avoid that discussion for now). The license permits you to do things which copyright law would normally suppress.
For a simple example, imagine buying a CD of music. You can listen to, but not copy and distribute it, wether it be for free or for profit.
GarageGames need customers to come to this site and browse around. Free games will be one of the attractions, so they will want you to distribute those through the GG site, and this is what the license requires.

alright, cool. I think it's only fair that we give back to garage games anyway. They've been nice enough to give us starters help :)
