linking to start01 disrupts animation!?!

I have a rotating fan blade (made from a cylinder, rotating around Z axis) I have a frame (made from a box with a few faces deleted). My fan blades spin just fine until I embed the shape. Then my blades start rolling around the Y-Axis. Not rotating, but rolling, like around the outside label of a can.

If I UNLINK, it goes back to normal rotation around Z. I can't export it unlinked (can I?) so I'm at a loss. I've tried unlinking the frame, and re-linking the blades, but anytime the blades are linked to start01 it gets screwy.

Any help?

Thanks,
Tony

I can't explain why it happened, but to fix it I had to go into the curve editor and manually redo the rotation along the correct axis. By trial and error I found that I could set the rotation along the X-Axis (I guess the embedding altered my axes somehow) and it works.

Thanks!
