Ok, i heard about Torque 3D and i have a few questions. Is Torque 3D a new engine? Will it be avalible at an upgrade cost for those who have TGEA? What is so differant about Torque 3D? I am sorry for all the questions, I am sort of new to game development and i want to stay in tune with what is going on.

Just a questions more :-):
Do I understand you right, I would only need the Torque 3D engine to build a game and don`t need the TGEA as a basic (must to have) to use Torque 3D?
The graphic looks great but what do you think does all that do to a performance of an multiplayer online game?
kind regards
greg

T3D is replacing TGEA and you do not need the TGEA software in order to use T3D.
T3D is in beta testing and you cannot purchase the beta T3D unless you also purchase TGEA. If you purchase T3D beta then you get the "gold" version when it becomes available. You save some money for ordering early.
If you wait until after the end of the T3D beta, you can purchase T3D without needing to purchase TGEA.

With the latest improvements, T3D is actually faster than TGEA on fixed function pipelines. You can create a game that targets lower-end computers as well as high end computers and make it look as good as the computer is capable of rendering.T3D is replacing TGEA and you do not need the TGEA software in order to use T3D.

I think it comes from burning it onto a 'gold CD' (CDR) before sending it to the publisher.

"gold" is an expression for a final software release, the gold releaes of T3D is the non-beta release. It does not imply anything special.I think it comes from burning it onto a 'gold CD' (CDR) before sending it to the publisher.

And regarding the capacity to buy T3D without buying other torque products... well, if you get two products for the same money, then whats the point in just picking one?
Yep, I think Tony made a pretty good summary, if we dont go technocrats =)

I agree, it is obvious that "gold" version is just an expression for the final release. And regarding the capacity to buy T3D without buying other torque products... well, if you get two products for the same money, then whats the point in just picking one?

Quote:No. It's a feature limited, and no source code, version of Torque 3D.

The more time i spend with T3D PRO the more reason I can see for T3DBasic and TGEA to stay in the product lineup, they do have a valuable market place still.

T3D Basic is going to be perfect if you just wish to play around, or prototype a big idea but not want to spend the extra for T3D PRO. The more time i spend with T3D PRO the more reason I can see for T3DBasic and TGEA to stay in the product lineup, they do have a valuable market place still.

T3D basic is only useful if what you want to make is a mod of the stock T3D engine. If you want to make something else (not an FPS) you will need pro.

I ask as I'd rather just spend the money once, rather than duplicate my expenditures.
Thanks so much!

Just another question about T3D. I'm planning on picking it up when its out. If I get the basic version and then upgrade to the pro version, is there a price break? I ask as I'd rather just spend the money once, rather than duplicate my expenditures.
Thanks so much!

@Arc: Love the Avatar BTW =) About your Basic --> Pro upgrade question, you'd just pay the price delta, not for both.

@Michael: You bet! I've always wanted a good game based on that universe.

@Brett: A friend of mine made a model of Serenity, and I really wanted to do a space adventure game at one time. Somewhere in the back of my mind is something similar to the 'verse kicking around... maybe one day.

there will be a upgrade cost for ones that own tgea and there's going to be a license change for this one as well. all new updates for T3D besides bug updates will cost more money. they say it will be well worth the upgrade cost for those updates.
whats different about T3D look at the blogs for that as thats the only info we have is in those blogs.
don't ask how much its going to cost no one knows yet but it will cost more then tgea we know that much. :P
