public email / private message ?

by Orion Elenzil · in Site Feedback · 02/17/2009 (10:01 am) · 7 replies

the new site no longer gives us the option of displaying a public email address, which was handy from time to time for contacting folks who might not be following the forums. afaics, there is no way to message a particular member. is this by design, or is some sort of private messaging en-route ?

meanwhile, i've posted my public email in the "Talent Summary" section of my profile.

They added that back in the last update from last week, maybe the week before. There's a box to check in the edit profile tab to display your email publicly.

I add my vote to seeing a PM system implemented here. I mean what modern community forum/site doesn't have private messaging between the members? It could be set up so that someone could disable it if they were worried about getting spammed by others, or have the ability to block only certain members etc. Indeed if someone was worried about spam a PM system is much better than putting ones email address in their profiles and/or posts if they want to communicate privately with other members.

Throwing my hat in the "PM support" ring. Really would be nice to ping folks through the board without everyone having to out their public email addy.

Thanks!

I would appreciate a PM system, but the email in the profile is also a good thing to have.

As posted in the general feedback thread, I think the email address would be a bit more protected if only available to see to registered members (aka logged-in into the GG site) instead of by anyone on the net.

In any case, no one will discuss that with or without a PM system the email is a primary tool for communication, and no indie developer can afford to hide his email address.

Personally I think a PM system is a must-be for "poking" fellas in the community, but Im not in favour of replacing the email with it.

I'd personally prefer to not have my email displayed publicly in order to prevent spam bots from picking it up. A private message system would be nice.
