Apologies to everyone. This seems to have been the incorrect thread
to post this.

when your in the demo press F12 or any of the other F buttons on your keyboard this will take you to the editors. in the Barricade demo you cant start a new mission so i recommend downloading the other demo called forge with that demo you can start from scratch. the game you want to build though will require lots of work no to ways about that and you will have to use the source so you will have to buy the engine one way or another. you can get started with the demo and mess around with the editors to get a idea what you will be working with.

there's a new torque engine that are building so i would not consider tgea pro. the new engine is going to be called torque 3d and its going to be very very good its just going to cost allot more money. i goign to say this again if you can think it you can build it it will take allot of work to put in what you want though makeing worlds that you can walk on are not easy i don't think anyone has done it with torque yet. the easiest way i cant think of is have all the worlds flat instead of round and from your main menu people can pick what world to go to or even a portal on a different world to go to another.

You'll find that a lot of help and advice can be found here. No one is doubting you. That link of Ted's is an excellent starting point for anyone who even thinks of doing a MMO-type game. It does have some "hard" questions that you'll have to ask yourself, and you should follow up by checking out the many MMO-related resources and discussions that he has linked to there.

So don't take this badly, you're not the first person wanting to start a team for an "ambitious MMO project", and you'll certainly not be the last. Ideas and concepts are easily come by, but you'll still need to add more to the equation in order to entice people to join your team. Get a prototype built, work on some storyboards, get some concept art drawn, etc., etc. Just do whatever it takes to present your ideas in a concrete form to at least illustrate what you want to do, then you'll have a design plan to present to potential team members.

@Dennis: I think you missed the point of the link I posted. Mike is correct, the post is about asking yourself very hard questions, and then acting on those answers. It's nothing I haven't done, or have had done to me- even as recently as today.

The question is, what about that thread offends you? Did you scroll down to the almost 100 links I've posted to help with MMO development? Do you think that all of that was written solely to offend you? Do you think that Garage Games would have accepted my request to make it a sticky if it was really that offensive? I would honestly like to know, because I don't get what you posted (especially a month after saying thanks).

What's in that thread are pieces of information I've gleaned from being in the indie games thing since 1997- first as a hobbyist, and then as a plugin maker, and now as someone just as crazy as you are trying to make an innovative MMO. It's an open thread, and if you come up with information that I don't have, then you're more than welcome to post links (or you can send them to me if you want them posted into the sections I have listed to keep the thread tidy). Or you can send me information on how to make the beginning post more accurate, if I've missed something or you think some information has changed.

I will say that I'm leaving the tough-love thing in though. That might be what you disagree with, but I believe that it's absolutely vital. Game business is a thick-skinned business, and trust me, I used to get offended by reading the same stuff, but I've learned to press on through it now- to my benefit, and a lot of others can benefit from it too. For people to get a sense of that in the post is a service to them, not a slight, and that's why I say in the thread(twice):
Quote:Do not take it personal, but take it to heart.

    Next:
Quote:I can take my buisness and concepts elsewhere.

I don't work for Garage Games and don't claim to, if that's what you mean. The thread was made to help my fellow developers out of a thank-you for those who helped me during my time here, and Garage Games thought that it was informative enough to merit being stickied, that's all.

I am aware that an mmo is a service industry.

I guess you didn't want any feedback after all. It's all good. Best of luck with your project, it does sound interesting.

Sorry Ted, it wasn't exactly the feedback I thought I'd be reading.
Good luck with your project as well.
