Hi, in my earlier post i discovered that Torque sounds like a good, pro quality, some what easy to learn engine. But i need these 2 questions answered still.
1. If i were to use TGE, could i make it so it has more modern graphics like you see in DoW? ( unless the graphics are already pretty good)
2.How fast would it take a newb to learn the TGEA or TGE scripting language or the whole engine itself?
please reply, i have only done some scripting with Realm crafter.

I thought the graphics dependid on the engine itself, and if you model them in low poly or high poly, and i have around 3 hours a day to use the engine but im new to gamedev...

the engine is hard to learn at first but once you learn it will be easy to use and might be fun when building you game. you could also pay someone to make you good graphic objects or just buy packs people already made.

graphics are based on your skills to texture your objects its how its done in every engine. tge you can only have the base color texture in tgea you can have normal maps and stuff to make it look more like DoW.the engine is hard to learn at first but once you learn it will be easy to use and might be fun when building you game. you could also pay someone to make you good graphic objects or just buy packs people already made.

But can you give me an estimate for a newb who has pretty much no expierience but has atleast 2 or 3 hours a day to work on his game, what im asking is an estimate for how long it will take to learn the engine.

you can add your 3d objects and everything i been working with the demo for over a month now i going to be buying the engine after i take my vacation.

i would say 1-2 months to learn the code the engine is not to hard to learn though at lest not for me its not. if you need help with anything you could always post in the forums. if you have the demo o get to the editors you have to press F12 or any of the other F keys for each editor. you should try the demo to see if you like it you can do just about anything with the demo only thing is you don't get script and you cant release your game till you buy the engine. you can add your 3d objects and everything i been working with the demo for over a month now i going to be buying the engine after i take my vacation.

lol i am a noob at gamedev as well. i have not started to learn the code yet but from what other people say it takes 1-2 months as a noob. i might move faster as i looked at some of the code that people post and it looks allot like html code and i know html like its the back of my hand.

TGEA and TGE are also much MUCH more optimized for speed and performance. they are also more complicated than Realm Crafter.
It all depends on how much time you want to invest into Torque, and what you're trying to do. TGE networking is pretty awesome. One thing that bothered my about Realm Crafter is that the networking is a little slow, and you have to divide your world into "zones" for optimization. In torque, you have a virtually unlimited paging (scrolling) terrain that repeats itself.
TGE is really good. You should play with the demo and really look at the engine, and you may never go back to Realm Crafter. Just known that getting characters into the engine is much harder in TGE than it is in Realm Crafter. So be forewarned.

I am also a Realm Crafter license owner. I can say with confidence that TGE is far ahead of Realm Crafter One graphics wise, and TGEA is much MUCH ahead of Realm Crafter 2. TGEA and TGE are also much MUCH more optimized for speed and performance. they are also more complicated than Realm Crafter.

I wanna make an RTS so it looks like I can make a good 1 with TGE and it is not all that hard to do it but it may take a year or so to make right? im a noob so it will take some 1 or 2 months to learn the engine but from what i hear in 2 months at most i should be ready to make a good quality that i can sell to the public ( but first i will have to make it) so i now think Torque is easy enough, but not to simple that it won't make a fun game for people to pay to play, thanks!

Hey guys thanks but... how much is it if u wanna sell your game? you know the license? or do you buy a company license that states you can sell as many games as you want with the engine if you buy the license.

You can sell your game at any price using the indie license. If you income more then $250,000 then you have to pay a few hundred more.

You'll be far ahead with tge and the rts kit. The kit hasn't been ported to tgea yet.
