Nvidia Geforce 256 isn't compatible?

by Jeff Schussler · in Marble Blast · 12/18/2002 (5:03 pm) · 13 replies

I've got a Pentium III 700mhz with a Nvidia Geforce 256 graphics card. I've got directx 8 installed.

When I try to run marble blast, it says that I don't have a compatible graphics driver. I went to the Nvidia site and updated all my drivers.

Any thoughts?

Now that's really bizarre... you got the latest nVidia drivers and it still doesn't run?? We've tested Marble Blast on TNT's, GF2, GF3, GF4, Radeons, intel built-in graphics, etc. It absolutely should run on a GeForce 256.

Not sure what to tell you.

Are there any other "drivers" that need to be updated?

I know I have the latest directx, and all the .dll files were replaced by the Nvidia update installation program. How can I figure out what driver is missing specifically?

edit

Sorry didn't realize you tried it with old drivers.

What OS? And DX8 or DX8.1+? If DX8, try upgrading.

Also, you should make sure you detail exactly when the dialog box pops up, and what it says, in case there's any ambiguity.

The dialog box (error message) pops up when I double click on the marble-blast icon. I never see the game run at all.

My OpenGL driver is 4.13.01.2183, if that helps.

I will try to upgrade my directx, but I thought I had the most current one, 8.0.

The game may have created a console.log file in the game root directory. Somewhere in there it should say "Accelerated OpenGL device detected" or "Accelerated OpenGL device not detected". Please tell us which it is...

you might want to upgrade your drivers...those are pretty old.

And you didn't post your OS. ;)

And you should update your DirectX to version 8.1b -- DX9 still isn't out yet.

DirectX 9 is out. That could help fix the problem. I would also check out the nVidia 41.09 drivers seeing how they seem pretty solid. Other than that I would say look for motherboard drivers and bios updates. It could be a problem with the AGP slot or something that is showing up in this game.

If you have Tribes 2 does that run? It has a playable demo for it that you could always try and see if that runs. Seeing how it's based on the same engine I would guess both should work or not work.

I could not get MB to run (or any other Torque game) with my Geforce3 and the latest NVidia driver (40.72). I had to go back to an older NVidia driver.

Any update on this problem? I just updated my drivers (GF3 ti200 128MB) to 44.03 recently and just installed MarbleBlast 1.3. First time I've had this error.

Is your Hardware acceleration turned all the way up? Right-click on your Desktop on choose Properties. This will bring up your Display Properties. Click on the Settings Tab and then click on Advanced. Click on the Troubleshooting Tab and check to make sure that Hardware acceleration is turned all the way up to Full. I've seen this error thrown up in other apps when this wasn't at Full so it might be related. Also, do any other 3D apps/games work on this PC? What resolution are you trying to run at?

Someone (or everyone) with the problem might want to post game, board, and driver version, AND the startup part of the log file (where it spits out stuff about looking for and setting up video board). Something doesn't sound right about this...
