Problems getting Torque X up

by Jeremiah Cooper · in Torque X 2D · 02/08/2009 (11:37 am) · 2 replies

I am running on a custom built gaming PC. It's running Vista. So I meet the system requirements etc. I installed a few things last night:

Visual C# 2005 Express Edition
XNA 2.0 Game Studio
Torque X Pro 2.0

From what I read I should be able to start a new torque project via Visual C#. However all I see are the XNA projects - and I also do not have a key for Torque X Builder even though I bought Torque X? Is there a seperate key I have to buy to run the builder? Thanks for your help.

Hi Jeremiah,

You should find the new StarterGame 2D/3D icons in the New Project dialog box. It may be under the Visual C# folder or the XNA folder, I don't recall which. Also, for your product key, go to the top of this Web page and click "My Account" to get your product key for TorqueX Builder.

If it is Torque X Pro from the old site (meaning you bought it before the site change) then it doesn't have a game builder key because they used to be separate... however, according to David you should be able to "purchase" Torque X 2D for $0 if you have a TX Pro license. More info:

I believe that the direction of the split is between 2D and 3D functionality and previous TX Pro + Builder owners will have access to TX 2D licenses without an upgrade charge while TX 3D will have a new license, though at a reduced price to previous Pro /+Builder licensees.

Existing Pro users with a builder license can "purchase" TX 2D for $0, I believe, since the builder and source have been rolled into a single product. I just tested this and it currently works this way.

I will need to check on the discount pricing since the store is still registering $150 with ownership of Pro and Builder licenses for a preorder of TX 3D (I just tested that as well). I'll check and if an upgrade price needs to be adjusted and just hasn't been done yet, then I'l add a support ticket for that change to be adjusted.
