TrueSpace 7.6 exporters

by Gary Roberson · in Artist Corner · 01/29/2009 (1:00 pm) · 8 replies

Well, Caligari has released their latest version of Truespacde for free, but that's old news. It's been free since September of last year (2008).

However, there's always a hitch, isn't there? it seems that they re-designed their whole file system. No longer do you have the .cob format, the .asc format, or even the .3ds format. Good thing I didn't throw away my copy of TS 5.0.

So is there anyone working on an exporter for the new formats supported by Caligari?

Well last I looked, TrueSpace 7 had no 3rd party SDK so the only way to build an exporter that I know of would be to use the python scripting interface. It might be possible to adapt the current blender exporter to also work with TrueSpace 7.

I believe some people have gotten the old DTS exporters to work, though I did not. I'm not exactly sure how they did since the scripting interface changed completely. I did not think it was backwards compatible, though in a topic about this before (which I cannot find right now), people said that they had it working.

In the original release of TrueSpace 7 there was some backwards compatibility for old TrueSpace plugin. so it is possible that the old exporters might have worked. In the free version I do not know if that is still the case.

I have heard mention of Caligari releaseing a new plugin SDK in their forums, but have yet to actually see anything.

I saw and downloaded the SDK (apparently I had been hitting the crackpipe pretty hard, because when I came to and remembered what plugin development was like for trueSpace, I deleted it, lol), but I can't find the link anymore. It should probably still be up, because it would be extremely strange for it to be taken down after being put up.

I read somewhere that Truespace supports Collada file types.
Does anyone know if this is true?
If so, when T3D is shipped out with Collada support, will they be able to load in TrueSpsce files?

@CJW: It's probably a question for Caligari's forums and how much support tS has for Collada, if it has any. Caligari is very good at half-assing feature implementations, so don't expect too much from them ;)
