What about Google Android?

Hi I have a question. Whit the resent release of iTorque that allows you to develop Torque engine based game for the iPhone. I was wondering if the Torque development team has any planes to do the same thing for Google’s mobile platform Andriod or are you already working on such a port?
Might we be able to see such a project in the future?

I'm going to guess that Android is not as major a platform as the iPhone is shaping up to be... therefore 'no' is my speculation on this.

I'd originally hoped that Android would be a good platform for Torque games. It looks like, with Android being Java-based, Torque would have to be ported entirely to Java though :/ I don't know anyone here who's at all anxious to do that. OTOH, Windows Mobile would be pretty easy, so if we see some devices emerge that look like they'd be good for gaming, and if there's demand for it, we'd likely make that available.

FYI...

Quote:Android includes a set of core libraries that provides most of the functionality available in the core libraries of the Java programming language.

Anybody heard any more about an Android port of Torque 2/3D?

Android seems to be getting more popular since the first post, and personally I'm also attracted to the more open platform. It'd be great to do Torque on it.

It seems that Unity 3D v3.0 will support Android...

We have not made any final decisions on Android/Pre/BB/etc ports at this time.

A lot of the Asian phones are starting to come out with it. FWIW I'm starting to think Android is going to take over the world.

Also, unlike Pre/BB, Android is Linux. So you do a fair amount of killing two birds with one stone :-)

I always like that when I'm making development decisions.

Yeah, Android is everywhere:

Doesn't mean it's good, though…the specs on that device above are pretty terrible.
