NEED to have feedback ratings for posters

I really think that the quality of the community could be easily improved by having a simple feedback/rating system to encourage people to spend time answering posts thoughtfully. There needs to be a better reward system in place.

Hahaha, good one. The point was obviously not to rate as good or bad, but to reward people for contributions.. you know like Ebay or something. I know alot of forums do it. There's no negative rating, just positive, and more positive :D.

I saw a huge post that must have taken some poor new TGB user an hour to put together and he never got a reply. I want to find a way to help reduce that from happening.

Hmm, good point. The quality is usually pretty high. I see alot of posts that go though with NO answers though. I try and answer those when I see them, but a lot seem to make it though unanswered. I am trying to find a solution to that. For instance if there was a way to get points or improve your rating by answering those.. maybe less posts would go unanswered.I saw a huge post that must have taken some poor new TGB user an hour to put together and he never got a reply. Some people had good blogs that got low ratings because their general reputation was not that great. Granted, there is a difference between blogs and threads, but I think if anything could benefit it would be resources.
Still, usually the threads with the highest amount of traffic (most posts) tend to have the most interesting content. Not always, but there is a pattern.
In general, I'm not a fan of a ratings system...

Well, we do have the sticky capability, all though only admins can use it. Our old blogs (.plans) had a rating system and it was not used appropriately. Some people had good blogs that got low ratings because their general reputation was not that great. Its not like the community hasn't seen irrational, vindictive posters in the past. A rating system for community members in general I think just leaves too much room for abuse.

Really I think the only thing that should have ratings is resources. As Mich pointed out the rating system has been abused to some extent in the past. Of course, ratings for blogs never really mattered all that much, I think the only reason the old site even had them was because .plans were counted as resources. Its not like the community hasn't seen irrational, vindictive posters in the past. You have all made good points, but I haven't heard any suggestion of a solution to unanswered posts. I guess it's just one of those things that will happen and you can't do much about it.
