help with transparent art assets

Hi everyone, hopefully someone can help me! I am using an art program that creates 2d isometric art pieces. The problem is when I save it in PNG format it saves the black background around the icon which obviously shows up in TGB. I posted on their forum and they said there is a good chance I should be able to specify the transparent color in TGB so when I place the piece in the game the black background is clear leaving just the actual sprite.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible in TGB and more importantly how to do this? If not are there any quick alternatives, the same person above suggested it would be easy to use paint shop pro to give it a transparent background?

You might want to try something like Paint.net

Freeware and outputs png's that work fine for transparency in TGB.

I found the sanme thing. Many paint programs don't save a transparent background. When I export I usually set an anti-alias to white, then use another program to turn all white pixels to transparent. I use Microsoft Photo Editor which a very old program, I doubt it's still commercially available.
