Torque X 2.0 Quickstart Guide

by Brian · in Torque X 2D · 01/26/2009 (4:19 pm) · 3 replies

Current Torque X Information:
Currently, the product site has incorrect information. Currently, to use Torque X(TX) you need Visual C# 2005, .net framework 2.0, and XNA Gamestudio 2.0.

The long version of what you have to do in order to successfully use TX:
1:Get Visual C# 2005 from Microsoft and install it.
2:Download and install Visual C# Service Pack 1.
3:If you have Windows Vista, download and install Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista
4:Download and install XNA Game Studio 2.0
5:Download and Install Torque X 2.0 - Demo

Awesome links to have to get started:
Official Documentation - You'll probably want to expand TorqueX 2D and Tutorials right away to get going.
TX Developer Community
The Complete Guide To Torque X by John Kanalakis- Pretty much a must have book.

Other really good links to know about in the future:
SpriteWorks by John Kanalakis- Convert 3D models to 2D sprites. Do you ever sleep John?
XNA Creators Club Online - Tons of great stuff that can apply to Torque X too like royalty free fonts, button icons, controller diagrams, etc.
MSDN XNA 2.0 Programming Guide- How to's for things like networking.
MSDN XNA 2.0 Framework Library Reference- Every detail of the XNA framework API.

Hopefully this helps more people get started,
Brian

Nice man! Pretty much everything you listed there is in my bookmarks.

One quibble: perhaps you should change the title to include something about this being a quickstart to TX 2.0 since, I'm assuming, this thread is a response to all the "What the heck! This doesn't work with XNA 3 threads!".

@Sean
Fixed! I can change the title and links later when TX 3.0 comes out. Yeah, the big deal with it I guess is that it has the link to the correct demo which isn't listed on the site... that and I really think the documentation is pretty good now but kinda hidden on the site so figured I'd put that in too.

Brian

Edit: Oh, and a more direct answer Sean, yes it was pretty much a direct answer to all the not working or the documentation sucks threads. <grin>
