Of course, you must make sure in the audio description to reflect the above (found in same file).
I believe the problem lay in some serious channel-fighting. Then again, maybe it was clean living that fixed it. :-P
I'd also implemented the old Tribes2 music player. You can check it out, here

I'm going to say this with the knowledge that just saying it will probably cause a chain of cosmic etheral events leading up to it getting broken again (lol), but you might try seperating the music channels. It's been a few months, but I think it fixed the problem.$DefaultAudioType = 0; $GuiAudioType = 1; $SimAudioType = 2; $MusicAudioType = 3; $EffectAudioType = 4;That was in /client/audioprofiles.cs
Of course, you must make sure in the audio description to reflect the above (found in same file).
new AudioDescription(MusicLooping)
{
volume = 2.0;
isLooping= true;
is3D = false;
type = $MusicAudioType;
};I believe the problem lay in some serious channel-fighting. Then again, maybe it was clean living that fixed it. :-P

Btw, does OpenAL wrap around DirectSound, or another way ?
'Cause if it's the case, then in the situation I saw this happen would mean having 2 apps fighting for the DirectSound ressources might a good way to reproduce the problem and track it down...
Needless to say that starting Marble Blast on its own cured the problem : works fine here !!! 8p
Have a good weekend all playing the new games !!

I experienced it when I had Chain Reaction going in the background (which crashed it, ie starting MB alongside, with CR in a window :)), so I suspect if you have another app that uses audio opened it could be a cause for the conflict...Btw, does OpenAL wrap around DirectSound, or another way ?

OpenAL is a wrapper on DXSound, as far as I know. I also have had problems with intermittent music in the shell when I first start up. It's not consistent though, and playing a level always seems to fix it.

I have had the sound cut out on me when I hit the Esc key to pause the game and go get a drink. Short amounts of time in this menu didn't cause the music to go out though. After going back and continuing the music would only play when I picked up an item, jumped or landed. Even after falling out of bounds the levels music wouldn't play right. A quick fix is just to reload the level.

Little note : I mentioned in another thread that re-starting MB would cure the problem. Actually, like Tim mentioned, playing the level would get the problem cured. The cure is actually the reloading, since everytime it happens, I now simply restart the level, and everything is fine thereof... :)

Well, I fixed the problem where the music cuts out when you press ESC, but the music can still cut out if the app is busy for too long. I'll be putting together another release later this week that will have the music fix plus a number of other tweaks.

SDRAM. Nvidia chipset.
Marble blast now works, sort of. It has a few bugs and oddities with the sound. but is playable for awhile before it gets unstable. 30min with a 11
year old and 3 friends. I've not tried using the Open GL driver, as it
defaulted to, for some reason was compelled to switch to the Direct3D
mode... that worked, but It is running a bit buggy.
Got to the 14th level and everyting got really slowwwww. So slow that it is unplayable. Switching back to the 11th level and it still works fine.
Music bed cuts out when you go to the options screen (every time) and then after cuts in momentarily
when you select any of the tabs or buttons. Like it is trying to play a button click sound,
but you get the music bed for the sound duration and the it chops off and you get nothing again... leaving the options menu and playing gets you back to the music which seems to work fine.
Anyway, the kids like it a lot and played it until the ball seemed to get stuck in fast forward roll mode and they could only stop it by going backwards!
They couldn't go backwards or control it any more.

sound gets jumbled after time for me. the sounds actually start to play the wrong .wav files for bouncing, rolling, etc. after some time.

Thereafter until the level is ended, the music will only be played, a bit at a time, whilst other sound effects are playing. So every time you bounce or collect a gem you hear a little bit of the music.
odd.

In my experience, music often stops just after a lot of sound effects have been played at once - for example, when you have become caught between a moving platform and a wall, and hundreds of sparks appear.Thereafter until the level is ended, the music will only be played, a bit at a time, whilst other sound effects are playing. So every time you bounce or collect a gem you hear a little bit of the music.

Solution!
On Windows (not sure on Mac) go to C:/My Games/Marble blast Gold/marble/data/sound and play around and mix 'n match with the files, go into the game, and HEY PRESTO, the Ready - Set - Go sequence should have changed! It might
Set - Ready - Go
Go - Ready - Set
Ready - Go - Set
Go - Set - Ready
or any other sequence.
bye

William, you realize that this is the second thread from over 2 years ago that you have posted a response to. You might want to check dates on forum threads to make sure that they are still relevant.
