To clarify, Godfather II (and a bunch more EA multiplayer titles to come) use Torque Networking Library, not the Torque engine. TNL is a really common choice for developers who don't want to try to solve the networking problem in games. It's a tough nut to crack and there hasn't been all that much innovation in the past decade on it. Like we've always said, Torque has, bar none, the best networking in the industry.

And while I wouldn't say that there hasn't been much innovation in the past decade on networking, you are right that TNL is still the best. :)

You might want to clarify that on the "Torque Titles and Licenses" page. EA is pretty touchy about stuff like that. I'm surprised they let you mention that they're using middleware at all. I worked on GF1 and it was built on an in-house engine, a heavily modified version of Renderware (since EA aquired Critereon). It would be tough to build an open world game like that in Torque because of the lack of streaming. I left before GF2 so I can't really say what they're using now.And while I wouldn't say that there hasn't been much innovation in the past decade on networking, you are right that TNL is still the best. :)

@Joel: Of course. EA does have a brand to protect, but we have permission to use their logos and trademarks as a condition of the license.
