Was the 3D portion of this book written for TX3.0?

TX 3.0 was in Beta this last summer? Maybe you mean XNA 3.0 Beta?

Yes. The XNA 3 beta. Sorry I didn't clarify. I am not sure if much of 3 made it into the book because of publication schedules and print-freezes.

True, the book was written while Torque X 3.0 was in development (not quite Beta). That's the big problem with the book right now - a lot of code samples don't work because they expect Torque X 3.0 - with a lot of classes that moved from interal to public. John K.

I suggest making some contents of book online so that it will get the maximum milage and contents to be updated easily.
TX seriously lacks documenations and looking at the book, it's probably better to make it part of TX online documentation probono from the first place. It's never too late if you can work it out with the publisher.
Thanks.

It's inevitable that a book depending on certain version of SDK will soon be obsolete. I suggest making some contents of book online so that it will get the maximum milage and contents to be updated easily.

Does kind of suck that they could change quite a bit from the time the books was written to release of 3.0. Hopefully it's just added functionality though.

From what I've seen the docs for most of the GG products are community "supported" so the lack of docs and samples are really the fault of the senior community members. I'm including myself in that group, even though I'm not a senior with Torque/TX I am a senior developer and I have enough time that I really should be contributing more.
I personally bought the book with the purpose in mind just to support John and I can say that after reading through the first 12 chapters I am pleasantly suprised with how well it turned out. Nice work John! I really like your writing style, reading your book makes me giddy like when I read Tom Miller's MDX books.

But - I think there has been a misunderstanding. The book was written against the (yet-to-be-released) Torque X 3.0. What everyone has today is Torque X 2.0.
Soooo... once Torque X 3.0 is released (any time now) the book will be perfectly synchronized with the release and all of the examples should work properly. The book is not obsolete, it is oddly ahead of the release.
Also, all the sample code is available online at www.torquexbook.com, though it, too, is in the newer Torque X 3.0 format.

Thanks Nathan, that's really cool! I truly appreciate it. But - I think there has been a misunderstanding. The book was written against the (yet-to-be-released) Torque X 3.0. What everyone has today is Torque X 2.0.

Sweet. Thanks John, That was my original question haha. I've just skimmed through the book, but I was not concerned either way. There is enough information in the book for me to be able to figure out the rest (Once I've gone through it). If TX 3.0 is as cool as it sounds like it's going to be I could see it gaining a lot of popularity with this book as it's companion documentation.
