Torque X 2.0 questions

by Robert Jolly · in Torque Game Engine · 01/09/2009 (5:34 am) · 2 replies

Hello, I am a premium member of the xna creator club and have heard a lot about torque throughout the years. I am researching using Torque X for my game projects. I have a few questions.

1) Can Torque X 2.0 games be published to the Xbox Community Games? 1b) if not, when is a update expected to release to make this possible?

2) I just purchased "The Complete Guide to Torque X" so that I can get a feel for this game engine and decided if it is right for me, but I have a question. If Torque X 2.0 can not be used to publish games to the Xbox Live community games, will there be a conversion tool to convert my Torque X 2.0 games to Torque X 3.0?

3) What version of Torque X does the "The Complete Guide to Torque X" by Garage Games apply to?

Here is my main concern. If Torque X 2.0 can not be used to publish community games, I do not want to learn Torque X 2.0 if learning it will not apply to Torque X 3.0. If you would please help me with my questions and concerns, I can make an educated decision on what is right for my Game Programming career.

Hi Robert,

There is a public forum for Torque X, many of your questions are answered there as well:

1)Not "out of the box". Torque X 2.0 = XNA 2.0. Community games = XNA 3.0. Many were able to use XNA 3.0 with Torque X 2.0, from the forums.

1b)I read that Torque X 3.0 is currently submitted for approval at Microsoft (submitted a week or so ago). Hopefully things go smoothly, but obviously the release could be an undetermined amount of time if there are large undiscovered issues. Therefore there is no scheduled release date.

2)http://www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=81635

3)The Complete Guide to Torque X is Torque X 2.0, and uses XNA 2.0 and (I believe) parts of XNA 3.0.
