Hey all
Well first of i just have to say im new to this modeling thing so if my explanation is vague im sorry.

I was practicing some modeling of a hand with milkshape creating fingers and thumbs with vertices (connecting them to make the triangles) and i used a wrist from a model i downloaded from some quake site(i was having troubles with the wrist :OP) My problem is now when i veiw my model in the 3d veiw(flat shaded) some of the trangles are black and when i try to unwrap with lithwrap it seems to only unwrap the wrist that i merged with my fingers and not the fingers at all. I have created one group when i was done with the hand. Also when i texture it in milkshape the hand does not texture properly. I think it has something to do with turning edges but i cant seem to find out how to use it properly.

If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated as this is getting frusterating.

Bryan,

The black polys/faces are probably just facing inwards. You can select those faces and use the Reverse Vertex Order option Face menu to fix them. To make sure that is what is happening, you can right-click in the 3d view and uncheck the Draw Backfaces option. If that is the problem you will then see a hole in the model rather than the back face.

It sounds like you were manually adding vertices and then connecting them manually to make the faces. Those appearing black (or invisible) when creating them are being created wrong. Simply change the direction you are using when creating the faces....if you were clicking the vertices in a clockwise order, change to counter-clockwise. This all depends on what view you are working in. Once you work with them for awhile, you will get the hang of it.

I hope this helps.

Thanks jason.
Great explanation..my biggest problem with milkshape is there are tutorials on how to do things but they all expect you to know a little modeling beforehand. But you explaned it perty good..ill try it out.

again thank you.
