Should I "announce" new resouces I've posted?

by Sherman Pendley · in Torque Game Engine · 01/04/2009 (11:15 pm) · 8 replies

Now that my first resource has been approved, and another is pending, I'm wondering - should I announce their availability in the relevant forum(s)? Or is that considered rude?

@Sherman - It hasn't stopped others, though it's usually less disruptive if you post them in existing threads. For instance, I was working on a new AFX module for my project. I created a thread in the forum to get help with working it out. When I was satisfied, I created a resource and posted a link to it in the original thread I created.

We have an approval process to make sure spam and inappropriate content does not make its way through. Our site admin, David, is really good with approving new resources quickly.

Since this thread already exists, I guess you can go ahead and place the links here =)

Just keep in mind what I've mentioned.

The one I was wondering about was the code module for BBEdit. It's already been approved, but there's no existing thread. It's just something I made for my own use, and decided to share.

The other one is still pending, but there's an existing thread, so I'll take your advice and post a comment there once it's been approved.

People usually jump right to the new resources when they see the "NEW" tag pop up. I know I always have. If there is an existing thread, go ahead and post a link. If there is a problem with the resource, which I don't see after looking at your latest submission, then we would remove it and e-mail you.

You're good to go on this one.

Oh cool! I hadn't noticed the "NEW" tag. Nice to know about that. :-)

I just approved your polysoup for Mac resource this morning. Sorry about the wait. If there are a bunch in the queue, I try not to knock others off the list too quickly because we want our resource developers to have their time in the light.

Just for the record, I didn't intend to imply anything negative about the approval process. I completely understand the need for it, and it actually got done quite a bit quicker than I'd expected from my own past experience working on similar things. Great job guys!

My question was more about the courtesy aspect of it - that is, in general, whether it's considered polite and/or helpful to create an "ANN: Whatever" thread in the relevant forum. Michael answered the question pretty well, I think; since there's an existing "new resources" page, there's no real need to post a separate announcement elsewhere.

@Sherman - Didn't get any feeling of negativity or criticism =)

We appreciate you doing a courtesy check first

I definitely check the resources section of the "What's New" page every day.
when a new batch of resources comes in it's like Christmas!
