hammer editor - no portal entity type

by Vijay · in Artist Corner · 12/01/2002 (1:13 am) · 3 replies

When I select the Entity Tool in the Valve Hammer Editor, I can't find a portal type object on the Objects list. I can see all other entities such as light_omni, target, ai_special_node, etc. I'm using the standard torque.fgd in the map2dif direcctory. Can anybody please tell me why this could be happening?

Portals aren't point entities (placed with the entity tool), they're brush-based. You need to make a brush you want to become a portal (or select it), click the ToEntity button on the right, and choose 'portal' from there.

Thanks James! That works. But now I'm slightly confused when I'd even want to use portals! For some reason, I thought all external doors in interiors need portals to be defined. But there doesn't seem to be the need for it! Any insights into this will be great.

Here's link that explains the usage of portals.
