It's time for shaders!

by Adib Murad · in Torque Game Engine · 11/28/2002 (2:17 pm) · 5 replies

Please,

Associates, Employees, experienced programmers in general: how far is TGE from a good shader support? Or better: what does it take to implement a shader support on a game/engine? Any resource about it?

Wow, almost 24 hours and no posts!

Ok, I did it wrong. I should have searched for 'shader' in the forums before posting, to find this thread.

Sorry, my fault.

I think most die hards will tell you Torque doesn't need shaders because:

A) It's magic
B) Torque without shaders is already better than Doom3
C) Only costs a hundred dollars

I'd love to see them, but I don't know how to implement them. So... I am not using them. :)

So you keep the same bullshit than in the other threads and throw shit at the coders that defend the idea that torque doesnt need shaders?
No one said Torque is better than Doom 3.... that's bull shit.... but you get torque for 100 bucks and you get Quake3 engine for 300 grand... and don't wanna guess what doom 3 will cost.
Shaders would look nice in torque, but it's not easy to implement.. so I rather make a great game with what I have, which will sale because it's a good game, rather than spending lots of time implementing shaders and dot3 only to have a shitty game with no gameplay but cool graphics.
GFX doesn't make a game, I still have lots of fun playing starcraft which has old graphics rather than playing warcraft III or any other RTS with 3d graphics. Why? Because the gameplay is interesting. Also I rather play Deus Ex than play Doom 3... Why? Read above.
Get the idea? Shaders aren't a need for you to make games.. it's only a plus.. if you want to spend what it takes to implement them, go ahead... it only costs 100 bucks and some time... Oh wait... you can't code? what a pity... you won't be able to make shaders and stop complaining about coders who don't want to implement shaders either.
You wouldn't expect all of the coders here to be where they are if they could code Doom 4 right?

This thread was only to start a discussion I didn't knew was already started elsewhere. I was careless, I'd rather cancel this, but this can't be done. Sorry, I promise to be careful next time.

So, let's jump to the other thread I linked above, what do you say? And please, we'll be fighting each other in a development forum? You're all cafein high! Where's my rocket launcher (dinamically shaded, of course)??
