Orb Blast Demo Beta

Hi Everyone,

We're just finishing up on a new game, it's a simple breakout/match3 pinball variant called Orb Blast (not very good at making up titles). The match3 comes in when gems fall you can collect them in certain orders to create colour combos, so like 2 yellows and a green would get you yellow apprentice points, 3 reds would get you red master points, 3 of each colour would get you a rainbow wizard and so on. There's also things like candy, presents, coins and bombs.

The goal of the project was to create something simple while learning more about online team dynamics and taking a project from concept to completion in a professional manner. There's still some polish (a few misc. graphics need to be replaced and touched up) that needs doing but all in all I think it turned out pretty fun but I'd love to hear what the community makes of it (please be kind).

Here's a link and a screen shot:

Thanks.

Note: The game takes up a huge amount of memory, I'm not sure what can be done. Any suggestions are more than appreciated. Also the installer may not work correctly, I tested it, it seems to be ok aside from a quirky readme thing at the end. This was my first time using InstallJammer.

Hey, I'm checkin' this out Mitchell. So there is online play mode, or just online high score tables or something?

Hi Kevin. I just made a reply that was very well written and put everything into perspective, it was beautiful so of course when I hit submit post the Garage Games website gave me that nice service unavailable error because I forgot to log in under http://216.116.32.49/ instead of http://www.garagegames.com and of course lost my wonderful post :(

So here's the short answer. No online component, wanted to keep things simple, it does have profile support for multiple people to play locally on the same computer - just not at the same time. Perhaps later an we can look into an online thing but not right now.

Yeah, you gotta love this forum. It will wait until you get done with a lengthy post and decide to lose it for you, then it will double post on you{ honest, I swear I didn,t hit the refresh} ; )

Heh, I just noticed it double posted - deleted.

Kevin, glad to hear you like it, I'm really pleased by how things turned out almost everyone on the team has been incredible. There's an updated demo version up on www.space-monkey-games.com - follow the links as I'm deleting the file listed above.
